Seeing the Familiar for the First Time
Juried by Industry of the Ordinary
Through sculpture, text, photography, video, sound and performance Industry of the Ordinary are dedicated to an exploration and celebration of the customary, the everyday, and the usual. Their emphasis is on challenging pejorative notions of the ordinary and, in doing so, moving beyond the quotidian.
Work in progress, one-offs, inkjet prints, silver gelatin, alternative processes and more are welcome. All types of 2D photo-based work, 10 x 10 inches or smaller, are welcome for this pin-up exhibition that will showcase smaller work in celebration of the ordinary.
Unframed prints only, 10 x 10 inches or smaller. Prints will be pinned to the wall to create a studio-like environment.

- End of July – Entrants are notified of jurors’ decision
- September 13 – Accepted work must arrive at Filter Space in Chicago
- September 20 – Exhibition Opens
- September 20 – Public Reception during Filter Photo Festival
- October 19 – Exhibition Closes
All types of photographic work will be considered. You may submit up to a total of five.
Save your images in JPEG format, sized at 1000 pixels on the longest side. Image files must be titled with the artist's last and first names, and the image number.
Videos are not accepted for this call.
The cost to submit to Seeing the Familiar for the First Time is $15.00 for the first three images. Additional images are $5.00 each, up to five images in total.
Accepted artists are responsible for shipping expenses to and from the gallery. Artist will include in their packaging a prepaid label for return shipping that Filter Photo will use at the close of the exhibition.
